I feel it’s about time I actually said something on this blog. I’ve grown accustomed to posting up inspiring - well, inspiring to me - pictures and while I’ll continue doing so, a little context wouldn’t hurt. But first, here’s some self indulgent blogging.

I’ve been raving about fancy lining on trousers on Selectism for a while now. The main reason for this because I’m bored to death by selvedge denim. To be more specific, I’m bored by the amount of new denim lines going on about their selvedge denim. I’ve always felt that some good looking lining would be a much better addition. So why not lead by example?

I’ve worn nothing but indigo denim for years now, so it only makes sense to pimp a pair of these. The ones in question are a pair of jeans I was fortunate enough to be given the other day (mentioning no names in a weak attempt to keep this blog ‘pure’). The cut’s good and quality is good but not amazing, meaning I won’t cry if it all goes wrong. Not that I’d do such a thing anyway, I’m a proper blokey mcbloke, me [/sarcasm].

The lining is obviously the most important thing for something like this. I want to avoid obvious patterns - so that’s plaid out of the lineup - and go for something that’d create a nice flowing feel between the colour of the indigo, the turn ups and the shoes. So the colour involved has to match navy blue of my denim as well as various shades of brown, cream and grey as these are the main colours of my shoes.

Seeing as I’ll only be using a small part of the fabric (although I might do this to more of my trousers if this goes well) I thought that I could afford to splurge a little. And where else to go than the department store famed for their prints?

Without further ado, here’s the main contenders:

Right now I’m leaning towards print B as it’s just that bit more melodramatic than the others. Not sure if it’d work on some turned up trousers, but I do like the idea of it. This is still a work in progress, so the results post will be up in a couple of weeks.
